Here’s What We Found

Our VW specialists discovered the Tiguan’s Engine Management Light illuminated when the car was started. During the diagnostic test, our technician found the following fault code:

P154B 00 – Diesel Particulate Filter, Difference Pressure Sensor faulty.

Fault codes are like helpful breadcrumbs for our specialists when it comes to troubleshooting. They point us in the right direction, indicating which system needs attention. However, it’s important to understand that these codes don’t directly reveal the exact problem at hand. That’s where our experts’ knowledge and experience come into play. Their expertise allows them to decipher the underlying issue by carefully analysing the situation, making connections, and applying the right solutions. So while fault codes are a valuable starting point, it takes the skill and know-how of our professionals to accurately diagnose and fix the problem.

We understood the urgency of resolving the issue with our client’s DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) promptly.

Afterall, a faulty DPF can lead to:

  • Failing your MOT emissions test
  • Black smoke coming from your exhaust
  • Mechanical failure
  • Your VW could go into “limp mode” to protect the engine from damage.

You shouldn’t ignore these DPF issues, as they could result in larger, more costly repairs that you definitely want to avoid.

Rest assured that your VW is in safe hands at Cheltenham & Gloucester Autocentre. Our team has access to the same VW technical information as Volkswagen dealerships, enabling us to diagnose and resolve issues like the Tiguan’s DPF fault. Additionally, our garage offers dealership-level servicing with better value.

How We Diagnosed the Problem

Our VW expert ran a series of live data checks and found the Pressure Sensor on the DPF had “implausible readings”. Several issues could have caused this result, including a faulty Sensor, wiring issues, or a problem with the DPF system.

In order to eliminate any wiring problems, our Volkswagen specialist conducted tests with an Oscilloscope. The results revealed that all of the wires were functioning properly, indicating that the issue likely originated from the DPF Sensor itself.

It was crucial for our VW technician to conduct a thorough investigation using our 15-step diagnostic process in order to identify and address the root cause of the issue. At Cheltenham & Gloucester Autocentre, we aim to save you time, minimise stress, and offer better value than the VW dealership. We are committed to providing a first-time fix for all of our clients.

Providing the Fix

Our technicians at Cheltenham & Gloucester Autocentre successfully identified the reason behind the illumination of the Engine Management Light, and we presented our findings to the client along with our recommended solution. Rest assured that you are always in charge of your vehicle at our garages, and we will only proceed with the necessary repairs upon receiving your approval.

After our client approved our plan, we were able to obtain a new DPF sensor for their VW. At Cheltenham & Gloucester Autocentre, we always prioritise the quality of your vehicle’s performance by utilising authentic VW parts or high-quality alternatives for every repair.

Our next step was to conduct a live data road test to check the DPF Soot Loadings after the faulty Sensor was replaced. DPF Soot Loadings indicate the amount of soot trapped in the Diesel Particulate Filter and provide insight into how dirty or clogged the Filter is with soot from the Engine Exhaust.

During our road tests, we confirmed that the Tiguan’s DPF was working correctly again and that the DPF Soot Loadings were safe.

In addition, the Engine Management Light was no longer illuminated!

We were delighted to be able to get our client’s VW working again. Throughout the entire process, we kept our client updated and provided better value than the main VW dealer. Not to mention, we also provided the fix quickly without compromising on quality.

In Summary

One of our clients brought their VW Tiguan to our garage after noticing the Engine Management Fault Light had illuminated. Following our 15-step diagnostic process and using VW technical information, we identified a fault with the DPF Sensor.

We discovered the issue promptly and provided a quality fix. Our Volkswagen expert replaced the DPF Sensor with a VW high-quality equivalent replacement part.
