Getting to the Source of the Audi Q7s Braking Issue

To begin, we allocated one of our skilled technicians to address the intricate Brake problem faced by our customer. The technician started their investigation by conducting a thorough examination of the vehicle fault codes.

Our investigation revealed that the Q7 displayed the following fault codes:

  • Error code C11EC 04 – pressure Sensor for Brake Booster, internal system fault.
  • C054A 00 – Vacuum Sensor “A” Range/Performance
  • P050F 00 – Brake Assist Vacuum Too Low.
  • C123E F0 – ABS Wheel Speed Sensor – Signal Comparison Failure

The average Audi owner may not find this information particularly significant, but for our skilled technicians, these codes hold vital insights. They serve as a guide, directing their attention to the specific areas that require further scrutiny.

Using the fault code information and applying their expertise our Audi technician identified some potential reasons which explain the symptoms that the customer had been experiencing:

  1.  Error Code C11EC 04:
    • Description: This fault code indicates a problem with the ABS Hydraulic Pump Motor.
    • Possible Cause: A faulty ABS Pump Motor, electrical connection issues, or wiring problems.
    • Symptoms: Reduced Brake performance, unusual feedback or noise during Braking, and the ABS Warning Light Illuminated on the Dashboard.
  2. Error Code C054A 00:
    • Description: This fault code points to an issue with the ABS Sensor responsible for Hydraulic Boost Compensation.
    • Possible Cause: A malfunctioning or misaligned ABS Sensor that measures Hydraulic Pressure.
    • Symptoms: Inconsistent Brake Pedal feel, increased effort required for Braking, unusual noises during Braking, and the ABS Warning Light activated.
  3. Error Code P050F 00:
    • Description: This fault code indicates a problem with the Brake Booster Pump.
    • Possible Cause: A faulty Brake Booster Pump Motor or issues with its electrical connections.
    • Symptoms: Reduced Brake assist, increased pedal effort, longer Braking distances, abnormal noise while Braking, and the ABS Warning Light illuminated.
  4. Error Code C123E F0:
    • Description: This fault code suggests a potential issue with the ABS Sensor Circuit.
    • Possible Cause: Wiring problems, Sensor Circuit Malfunction, or damaged Connectors.
    • Symptoms: Inconsistent ABS operation, ABS Warning Light activation, unusual feedback during Braking, and potential loss of ABS functionality.

After completing a diagnostic evaluation and visual inspection of the ABS Unit and Servo, our technician discovered that the Sensor was not transmitting data. After removing the Sensor, we checked the Wiring and Terminals, which were all in good condition. With an Oscilloscope, our technician confirmed that the live, earth, and signal voltages were correct and concluded that the Sensor was therefore at fault.

Resetting ABS Unit & Replacing the Faulty Sensor

Once the problem was identified, our skilled Audi technician promptly ordered a new Brake Servo Vacuum Sensor. With the faulty Sensor already removed from the vehicle, the replacement was swiftly installed, ensuring minimal downtime for the customer.

After the installation, we conducted a thorough inspection of the entire Brake System to ensure its proper functioning. Utilising the Audi dealer software, our technician cleared the Fault Codes and monitored the live data from the Brake Servo Vacuum Sensor. This allowed us to verify that the unit was operating flawlessly once again.

To further validate the success of the repair, we took the vehicle for a test drive, carefully evaluating the Brake feel, noise levels, and overall performance. We were delighted to observe no Warning Lights on the dashboard, normal Brake Pedal feedback, and an absence of any unusual noises emanating from the Braking System. It was truly a job well done!

At Cheltenham & Gloucester Autocentre, we value clear communication with our clients. Throughout the entire process of fixing their Audi, our friendly reception team kept the customer well-informed. We thoroughly explained the issue with the Brake Servo Vacuum Sensor, provided an estimated completion time, and presented a breakdown of the costs. We believe in empowering our customers to make informed decisions when it comes to the work performed on their Audi.

Thanks to our efficient service and access to the necessary parts, we were able to resolve the problem on the same day, leaving our customer delighted. It’s worth mentioning that they contacted us at just the right time – any delay could have potentially necessitated the replacement of the entire ABS Unit, incurring significantly higher costs. We take pride in our ability to deliver timely and cost-effective solutions for our valued Audi owners.
