Mercedes A & B Service

Mercedes A & B Service

Maintaining your Mercedes with the correct Service Plan is essential in order to keep these luxury vehicles running at their best. In 2009, Mercedes introduced a maintenance schedule that advises you on what Service your vehicle needs and how they are performed. Mercedes has conveniently named the different maintenance Services A and B to ensure you receive the correct maintenance for your vehicle at the right time.

In addition, your Mercedes vehicle will alert you when you need to take your vehicle in for a Service and what type of Service is due next.

In this blog post, we will explain the difference between Mercedes A and B Services and how Cheltenham & Gloucester Autocentre can take care of all of your Mercedes Service needs at a better-than-dealership price.

Mercedes A & B Service

Mercedes-Benz A Service

Required after the first year of vehicle ownership (or 10,000 miles), the Mercedes A Service is a smaller Service that is essential for maintaining your Mercedes. After your first Mercedes A Service, your vehicle is required to have the Service every two years thereafter.

The Mercedes A Service consists of a series of inspections, checks and adjustments and covers the following:

  • A Synthetic Motor Oil replacement is performed to ensure the Engine components of your Mercedes are lubricated and cooled efficiently.
  • The Oil Filter is replaced to prevent harmful particles from entering and causing damage to the Engine.
  • Tyre inflation will be checked and corrected to ensure optimum fuel efficiency, prevent uneven wear and tear of the Tyres and uphold vehicle safety.
  • Inspection of the Brake components to ensure the proper functioning of the Braking System and components.
  • If the Mercedes Dashboard Warning Message appears, your Service garage needs to reset it and update the Service records on the Mercedes system or logbook once the Service is complete.

Mercedes-Benz B Service

The B Service occurs roughly one year after the A Service and at two-year (or 20,000-mile) increments thereafter. It offers more in-depth inspection and part replacements.

When you need a B Service, your Mercedes vehicle will display a message on the Dashboard informing you when it is due.

The Mercedes B Service consists of:

  • A Synthetic Motor Oil replacement is performed to ensure the Engine components of your Mercedes are lubricated and cooled efficiently.
  • The Oil Filter is replaced to prevent harmful particles from entering and causing damage to the Engine.
  • The Cabin Dust/Combination Filter is replaced to ensure the prevention of outside pollen and dust from entering the Cabin.
  • Tyre inflation will be checked and corrected to ensure optimum fuel efficiency, prevent uneven wear and tear of the Tyres and uphold vehicle safety.
  • Inspection of the Brake components to ensure the proper functioning of the Braking system and components.
  • If the Mercedes Dashboard Warning Message appears, your Service garage needs to reset it and update the Service records on the Mercedes system or logbook on completion of the Service.

Service Levels A and B for Older Mercedes Models

Some older Mercedes models come with more specific A and B Services that users may be notified about. The Dashboard may display a warning message such as A7 Service or B4 Service.

Services such as these require the normal A or B Service but with additional Servicing of certain components. The following is a breakdown of what they mean:

  • A0 or B0 Service – Sunroof cleaning and lubrication, with Spark Plug renewal for certain models.
  • A1 or B1 Service – Brake Fluid replacement
  • A2 or B2 Service – Brake Fluid replacement and Sunroof cleaning and lubrication
  • A3 or B3 Service – Air Filter replacement and Spark Plug renewal
  • A4 or B4 Service – Air Filter replacement, Spark Plug renewal, and Sunroof cleaning and lubrication
  • A5 or B5 Service – Air Filter replacement, Spark Plug renewal, Brake Fluid replacement
  • A6 or B6 Service – Air Filter replacement, Spark Plug renewal, Brake Fluid replacement and Sunroof cleaning and lubrication
  • A7 or B7 Service – Automatic Transmission Oil replacement and Transmission Filter replacement.
  • A8 or B8 Service – Automatic Transmission Oil replacement, Transmission Filter replacement and Sunroof cleaning and lubrication.
  • A9 or B9 Service – Automatic Transmission Oil replacement, Transmission Filter replacement and Brake Fluid replacement.

Signs That a Mercedes Needs a Service

On your Dashboard, you will see a message reminding you when your next Service is due. If you don’t see this message, you can find it within your vehicle settings.

Locate the Service menu within your Mercedes Dashboard Screen. Enter the ASSYST PLUS feature from here. Your dashboard will display a message informing you of the Service you need and the number of days until your next Service is due.

Mercedes C Class Servicing Case Study

Recently, a customer came in for a routine B Service on their Mercedes C Class. We were able to provide our client with a free courtesy car while their Mercedes Service was carried out.

As part of this Service, our technician checks:

  1. The Lights, Windows, Wipers and Mirrors.
  2. The Horn, Hazard Lights, Air Conditioning and Seat Belts.
  3. The Steering, Suspension and Drive System.
  4. The Brake Pads, Discs and Brake Fluid.
  5. Under the bonnet for faults or leaks. If required, the Air Filter, Oil Filter, Spark Plugs, Belts etc are replaced with genuine replacement parts.
  6. Underneath the vehicle, including the removal of trays, oil drain and inspection of transmission for leaks, rust, or corrosion.
  7. Tyre tread, Tyre pressure and the Wheel Alignment is measured.
  8. Antifreeze levels and top up if required
  9. Refill the Engine Oil and update the Service history.

Our Mercedes Service specialist found uneven Brake wear on the Mercedes C Class. An urgent Pad and Disc replacement as well as a Wheel Alignment were required for this Mercedes C Class. Thankfully, we caught it before it caused a serious accident.

After consulting with the customer, our technician expertly replaced the Brake Pads and Discs, ensuring the Mercedes once again had even Brake pressure, and aligned the Wheels. Additionally, during the inspection, our technician ensured there was no damage to any suspension components.

Our technician added air to the Tyres at the recommended level, performed an Oil and Filter replacement, and reset the maintenance counter. Our technician also updated the Mercedes Service record.

For every Service or repair we perform, we follow manufacturer guidelines and specifications so the vehicle drives and performs as intended. We also provide top-notch customer Service, as our online reviews attest. Each and every customer and task is treated with the same level of professionalism and efficiency. Moreover, we only use the recommended OEM or the highest quality parts available within our servicing.

Consequently, our client was able to drive away confident that their Mercedes had been thoroughly and correctly Serviced, was safe for the roads and they had saved money compared to taking their Mercedes to the main dealer.
